Working From Home Tips

My biggest worry when I went from a corporate role to starting my own business was working remotely. So I get it - but WFH is the best thing for us all right now. And the reality is, we couldn't ask to work from home in a better time - what technology allows us to do is like no other time in history and we have the ability to stay just as connected and not miss a beat, if we so choose. So here are the things I’ve learned over the last year to work from home in the most happy, productive and effective way.

Working from Home Tips

1) Write Your Gratitudes

Now more than ever, it's so important to start your day off by writing out 6-8 things that you're grateful for every morning. They may appear simple but it's so important to start your day off by focusing on the positive.

2) Start Every Morning With a Little Alone Time

My personal saviour is my Peloton bike which I make time for every morning and it gives me more clarity and wakes me up.

3) Set Goals for the Day

I teach writing 8 goals for the day, and writing them out at the beginning before you start anything else helps keep you productive, focused, and on track.

4) Set Yourself up Properly

Whether it's getting your software working properly, or creating a proper desk, give yourself dedicated space where the kids, or the dog or TV can't distract you.

5) Meal Plan

Plan your meals for the day so you don't go for the kids bear paws every few hours.

6) Keep Office Hours

Whether you choose to get a head start at 6am or start at 10am, give yourself office hours and stick to them.

7) Build in Breaks

It's easy to get distracted and grab a snack or call a friend, but building in breaks will keep you more focused.

8) Don't Spend all Day on Email

Especially now, time can fall away if we're all consumed with emails, give yourself set times to check-in.

and most importantly…

9) Stay Connected

Creating that virtual community and letting people know that you're there and thinking about them is the best way I've found to stay connected from my own home. Now more than ever.
